- by JarettEast
Post your question for the band (or individual members) below.
-
What type of video games do you guys play most of the time while at home or on tour? - (Asked by T-Dawg)
STEVE: We play sports games and will work anybody in Madden, NBA2K3 and NHL2K3. Bring it on!
-
I been to every NFG show in San Francisco for the past few years. I was wondering if you like playing here and which show was the best?
- The Filmore-Nov.13th - Concourse-Oct.11th - Any Warped Tour (asked by xxnfg05xx)
IAN: Its very hard for me to pick favorite shows. I love playing in San Fran though. I guess when we did Warped Tour and we played by the bridge. I think that was 2 shows though...
-
Hi, well when i look on ticketmaster to c if u guys are coming to my state it seems that mostly u arent, and well u only come to chicago rarely. So my question is do u not like chicago or u dont have time to come alot?
(asked by nfgiluvu)
CYRUS: Actually, we just played in Chicago on April 10th. Since 1999, I think we have played in Chicago about 12 times.
-
Hey Jordan, Chad, Ian, Steve, and Cyrus! I was just moshin' at your Detroit concert at Cobo with GC and I was wondering what your playlist was for that concert, if you can still remember. Thanks a lot. NFG is the best band ever!
(asked by Chubbzs182)
IAN: All of our setlists are posted in the events section of the website under the specific date. We try to get them up within 24 hours of a show.
-
First do you think you guys will ever play a couple smaller venues like you guys used to in Wilkes Barre, PA, at Homebase and Scranton, PA, at Tinks? And Steve is Fender ever going to release your guitar as an Artist Series?
(asked by Kenn1515)
STEVE: We recently played a secret show in a smaller venure, so maybe someday we will in PA....and if you email fender enough maybe they will make the guitar. Go to fender.com.
-
Hey guys, my name is Elizabeth and i was wondering when are you going to come out with a new single anytime soon? and if you are what is it going to be? and another thing i wanted to thank you guys fro going out to Universal Studios and meeting and greeting your fans you guys are totally awesome for doing that. Thank you sooooo much for doing that there is nothing better than meeting your favorite band. sorry for taking up you time! and thank you.
(asked by liznfg)
IAN: If there is another single it will be Understatement, but we are not sure yet. Only time will tell. Call up radio stations and request it and maybe it will catch on.
-
How did it feel that you've gone this far from the beginning to here and now all of a sudden you finally got a house of your own with stuff you always wanted? How does it feel that you've worked so hard? What kind of stuff are you planning to get now that you're getting bigger with the rest of your band?
(asked by showie)
CYRUS: Well, I can honestly say that a lot of this feels surreal. Sometimes we can't even fully process what is happening with our band, but a few days or weeks after something happens, you'll suddenly have this moment where you realize how special all of this is, and how much none of us want this to end. It feels great to look back and actually think that we have worked pretty hard to get where we are today. It doesn't even really seem like that hard of work to us, it's always been fun...in fact, being on tour and traveling and playing shows is one of the coolest parts of being in a band, so even though we would spend months on the road, sleeping only a few hours a night, we would always look forward to each show with equal anxiety and excitement.
-
Ur an incredible drummer! I was wondering if you really have entries on livejournal.com? Coz someone was “role playing” you and I got all confused. Are you really dating Meg from White Stripes? Thx ur the best! Cya n Worcester!
(asked by CyRus ChiC)
CYRUS: I do not have any entries on livejournal.com...I’ve never even been to the site. It’s sad to hear that other people are pretending to be me, but I guess they think it’s funny. Just don’t believe everything you hear...like the White Stripes thing...I don’t remember ever meeting them!
-
I'm a loser sue me. I've been trying to teach myself how to play the guitar, but I'm not having any luck. I can't seem to follow the books I have. Any advice, or should I try to get a real job?
(asked by batmanchick)
IAN: I say you should take lessons. I did, even though I still suck, but it’s a lot easier when someone shows you in person what to do. They cost money, but its well worth it, if you want to be good. I can't read tab or music. I just play what I hear or I am shown.
-
If you guys could re-live any show which one would it be?
(asked by iwannabjosie)
CYRUS: I would love to relive my first show with NFG again...it was the CD release party for "It's All About the Girls EP", at Club Q in Davie, FL in December of 1997. There were probably 250 people there...I didn't even use my own drums, because my set was crappy. I borrowed a friend's set. We sounded horrible that night...and if anyone would have asked me that night if I thought that all of this would happen eventually, I would have started laughing, and said "only in my dreams"...
-
I saw NFG at 2002 Warped Tour but was wondering when there comming back to Australia????
(asked by SHARNIE)
IAN: Right now I don't know any dates, but I have heard a rumor about us playing Australia later this year. We will post the dates on our site as soon as any dates are confirmed.
-
My bro and I really want to know who or what is
Blanco Meow. Is it just something you made up, b/c Nate (my bro)and I went around everywhere, asking if anyone knew who that was, most ppl just looked at us like we were crazy Indians, but some ppl heard about Blanco Meow from the dvd, well we were just wondering. See ya 6-3-03!! (asked by xxnfg05xx)
STEVE: Blanco Meow is a.... um... I...for the safety of NFG fans worldwide and the protection of mankind, it's probably better if I don't say.
-
I am a big fan. I have all the CD's except one. Is
there any way I can get the "Waiting" CD. If I could that would be awesome, but if I cant thanks anyway. (asked by nfgpunker04@yahoo.com)
IAN: That was not a real cd. It was burned cd that we made on our own, with a cheesy layout on computer paper. We only made about 20 copies for family, friends and ourselves. There have been people making copies and selling them on ebay. I am 100% sure all the ones that are sold on ebay are fake. There were only 3 studio songs from us on there and all of them are floating around on the net. You just gotta search for them....
-
This one is for the band, What’s your favorite song to perform in concert?
(asked by Base183)
CYRUS: Hard question to answer, because it changes all the time. I really like to play "Understatement" because it's a very energetic song, from start to finish.
-
hey guys. i was just wondering, what do you guys consider a sell out? cause in the exclusive interview you guys did for launch.yahoo.com, you said that Linkin Park was a sell out, I’m just wondering why you think they are? You guys said something about like staying in touch with fans or something and not ignoring them, but LP does that too... just wondering, thanks, Joe
(asked by jdoug444)
IAN: I don't think Linkin Park are sell outs. I like their music and just bought their new cd. I don't really pay any attention to the word "sell out" because who am I to say if someone is a sell out or not. Plus my opinion doesn't mean that much anyway. I am pretty sure that was not a quote from me, and if it was its a misquote. I never talk trash about other bands, because I have no reason to.
-
Hey there ian, and all the guys, of course...I was just wondering, since you love Britney so much have you ever gotten to meet her and does she know anything of your admiration for her? I’m a girl and most girls despise her, but I just love her to death! Also...I’ll be going to your Portland, OR show on 5/27...will there be any autograph signings or anything like that? Thanks guys, you rock.
(asked by keeliekeelz)
IAN: I have not gotten to meet her yet, I am not even sure if she knows who I am? To be 100% honest with you, I still enjoy Britney's music, but I am not into collecting stuff from her anymore. I have every toy, shirt, and cd twice. As for the signing the best time is after the show. Just chill where the others chill(by the buses). If it's not raining outside I will be there to sign stuff...
-
Hey I saw cribs you guys were very entertaining. My question is this. I have got to get some of those paintings from that curbside artist...LOVE THEM. Please e-mail me an address, phone #,
E-mail address of this guy. PLEASE!!! I figured you'd have some business card or contact on the back of the paintings that you could send to a fan. PLEASE! (asked by Dansinlin)
CYRUS: Sadly, there isn’t any contact info on the back of the painting, only a scribbled signature on the painting itself.
-
I noticed Cyrus got some tattoos on his arm. What are they? Did anyone else get new tattoos?
(asked by ren8899)
CYRUS: I got a few new tattoos, all on my left side...I got a flaming snare drum on the inside of my forearm. I also got a "NFG" on my shoulder...but it's in front of a moon and what will soon be a sky scene, leading down into a very cartoon-like interpretation of the Sticks and Stones album cover. Then, on my left leg, I got a whole bunch of "mascots" of the bands that we've toured with and have really been key to our success...those bands (so far) are MxPx, Reel Big Fish, Less than Jake, Blink 182, and Good Charlotte. But I think you really need to see the tattoos to understand them.
-
How come when it told me to choose songs I wanted you guys to play at your shows I couldn't choose Scraped Knees? I like that song. You should play it.
(asked by oliviakool)
IAN: The reason is we do not play any songs off that cd anymore. Cyrus was not in our band when that cd came out and we have not played those songs in years. Thats like our first demo.
-
Is it true that Ian didn't actually know how to play the bass before he entered your band?
(asked by swirleypop1O1)
IAN: Who are you kidding? I still don't know how to play bass. I started on guitar first when I was 13 and switched to bass at 17 because it had less strings and I was tired of sucking. It seemed to be easier for me to learn. So to answer your question, I guess that's false. I kinda knew how to play bass before we started New Found Glory.
-
I was just wondering how much you guys use pro tools to edit your songs?
(asked by avengedsevenx)
CYRUS: Well, to say that we've never used ProTools to edit stuff would be lying. But, I can say that our producer (who has worked for years with both ProTools and analong [tape] machines) has said that on a level of 1 to 10 with 1 being no editing at all and 10 being so much editing that a human couldn't have possibly played the parts, the most we have ever edited with ProTools would be about a 3. And basically, that means we are using ProTools to speed up the repetitive and tedious parts of the recording process without sacrificing the human qualities of the music, which in the end, saves us thousands of dollars in studio time, and saves our producer hours by using computers instead of razorblades and tape (which we've used before for some minor [and I mean minor] editing).
-
Plain and Simple - Do you guys think that you'll ever do instores anymore? Not like the large record stores in nyc and stuff, but smaller places around the US, etc.
(asked by New-Found-Glory-Girl)
IAN: I am pretty sure we will still do instores. As far as I know, they ask us to do them and we either say yes or no. But signings are not that fun. Too many rules. One thing signed no pictures. If you want to meet us, a show is the best place.
-
Hi NFG,
Have any of you got msn messenger? If yes please send me your address. (asked by Ramshaw)
IAN: Not sure about the other members, but I don't have that. I used to have aol instant messenger but i don't use it anymore.
-
Why did your guitar tech Steve Looker play guitar from May 1 to May 21 2002? I was looking on setlist.com and it shows him and not Chad for all those shows. What's the dillio??
(asked by NFG_LTJ_skacore 05)
CYRUS: Unfortunately, Chad had to stay at home during that tour (which was in Europe). Chad was at home to have surgery to remove his tonsils and to recover from that. I can actually say from my experience with a broken arm and missing tours, that I know Chad would have done anything he could have to be on that tour. However he would have risked a lot more if he didn't get the surgery done then. Thanks to Looker for filling in, because otherwise we would have had to cancel that tour, which ended up being great. Although we felt like something was missing the whole time.
-
Hey guy's obviously you are all fans of other bands, but which bands? Also when A New Found Glory first started out did you ever feel that you would make it this far and be playing at sold out venues every night? And now you are living the dream, is it anything how you imagined it would be?
(asked by Adio24)
IAN: I will start with the second question. This was a far fetched dream of ours. I used to follow Blink and Unwritten Law through Florida with my brother. I would dream of just touring. As far as I knew, I wanted to release 1 cd and just tour once. That was as far as my dreams went. Every dream that I had, I conquered. The rest is just icing on the cake. We are very fortunate and we appreciate everything that has happened for us. We know it's the fans that got us here. Without the fans we are just 5 dudes with jobs at fast food places. As far as music that I like, lately I have been listening to Michelle Branch, REO Speedwagon, and Lionel Richie.
-
Yes, when are you comming back to www.anewfoundglory.net for a chat? It was awesome last time you came.
(asked by derica)
IAN: Right now I don't have anything planned, but now that you filled everyone in on our little secret the next chat might not be so small. It’s so hard to do chats when lots of kids are there and no one gets their questions answered. That’s kind of the reason we started this faq section. I can't promise anything, but I will try to do another chat some time in the future.
-
I was just wondering... Don’t get me wrong, Steve, Ian, and Cyrus are pimp daddies to the max... but why doesn’t Jordan or Chad answer any "Ask NFG" questions?
(asked by Blinkme4422)
CYRUS: Ian and I are the ones who are on the internet the most, so we get the questions and answer them faster than the other guys most of the time. Everyone will respond to a question eventually, because we have TONS of questions to answer all the time.
-
Why do so many people say you guy's are a Christian band? They play you guys on the Christian radio stations and every thing, is there any truth to that?
(asked by atticuspunk0531)
IAN: No, there is not any truth to that. I guess people see the name New Found Glory and they think we are Christian. We have 3 Jewish members so obviously that is false. I guess the day when Chad is really dating Kelly Osbourne we'll be a Christian band. All I can say is don't believe everything you read, see, or hear. TRUST NO ONE!
-
I was just wondering if it's true what I have heard, are you guys starting a record label? If so what will bands have to do to get you their demo/record? KEEP ROCKIN' OUT!!!
(asked by keeprockinout)
CYRUS: That's a new rumor. I didn't know we were starting a record company. I haven't heard of any plans of that happening, but we will always take demos from bands. You can give them to us at shows or send them to the address in our Sticks and Stones CD booklet. In fact, NFG got some of our first shows by giving bigger bands ours. MxPx gave us shows after we hooked them up with demos and stuff. That was one of our first big breaks!
-
Hey NFG, It was bugging me. Kind of a stupid question, but how do you guys know Chris Kirkpatrick? You guys seem to be in two different music worlds?
(asked by ChadGilbertIsGod)
IAN: We don't really know him that well. He was in Good Charlotte's video and he came to a show to hang out with them. As I was on my way walking to the stage I saw 2 of my friends from Death Becomes You (D.B.Y) taking a pic with him. Me and Steve jumped in. I didn't really get to say much to him to be honest. I'm not even sure if he knows a lot about our band is. However, I am a big fan of NSYNC.
-
Hey Cyrus, I was just wondering how u feel being in the back all the time and if u ever wanna just jump to the front of the stage. I think ur awesome and u inspired me to pick up my old drum stix again. Thanx
(asked by ujustjealous)
CYRUS: Well, I love playing drums and all that, and being in the back has its advantages...I'm stationary, so I don't have to worry about the sound changing when I'm on different sides of the stage...I also don¹t use a microphone, which is good because I don't really feel comfortable talking in front of a lot of people. But I would love to play guitar up on stage...I've been playing guitar for a long time (10+ years), but I only played a few times on stage...I think it would be fun to rock out up there!
-
Hey Cyrus, do you re-use the grip tape on your sticks after they break or do you buy new tape for every new pair of sticks? Cuz I've just bought the Pro Mark grip tape, but it's so expensive!!
(asked by Nailpindrummer)
CYRUS: I do not re-use the grip tape, but that doesn't mean that it can't be done. I have done it in the past, but at the level of touring that we are at I'm able to use new tape for each pair of sticks.
-
Hey Ian, I used to be able to e-mail you. What happened??? I need to tell ya bout how great the show was so if i cant e-mail you i'll just post it here.
(asked by ItsBeenASummer)
IAN: Ok so here is the email story. I used to have nachonfg@hotmail.com and yahoo.com./..both got hacked. Then I got the earthlink address. I would get like 800 emails a day. If you give an inch people want a mile. I spent hours everyday and when people would write back they would complain. "You only wrote me back 3 lines." 3 lines to 800 fans is a lot. So after awhile I got frustrated with people getting mad when I worked so hard to reply to everything. Then my email got hacked again. So I simply gave up. I spent so much time and thats all people did was complain. That was about the time I broke the laptop I was using, so I gave up. No computer, no email....sorry to everyone that can no longer email us. At least we have this FAQ section.
-
Hey, all these people say your going to be at the
Warped Tour and all these people say you wont be! So I wanted to know straight from you, are you playing at the Warped Tour? (asked by PunkRockLexy52)
IAN: We are not doing Warped Tour. We will be recording a new cd and we are going to Japan. We are also playing some shows in select cities and hopefully will go back to Australia and Hawaii, although nothing is set in stone.
-
Hey I was wondering if my band can use that riff from the nfg dvd (french toast is vegan) lol...... let me know!
(asked by hotpocket)
CYRUS: Funny. I don't even know how to answer that.
-
In the song "Boy Crazy" there is a line that says "I bet you thought this song was about you." Well my question is, is that song about someone or just about mean girls in general?
(asked by NFGxGRLx4xUx15)
STEVE: Well that line isn't in "Boy Crazy," it is in "Sucker," and the meaning is in the words. Everything I write I try to make general.
-
Hey you guys, my question is for Jordan. I saw you guys on Saturday and it kicked ass and I just had to say I love your shoes Jordan. Mind telling me what kind of shoe they are so I can get a pair? They were like blue and white or black and white and I loved them. Thanks!
(asked by NFGGCRoxyGurl21)
JORDAN: My shoes are DC Shoes called The Alias. They are white and black. They also make them in white and blue or all black or all blue. Hell Yeah!
-
Hey guys..how are yall? I hope yall are doing good and having a blast. I went to your concert in KC a while ago and it was so rad. You guys rock out so hard and are very awesome. Seeing you guys with all your energy makes me want to get up and jump around. Your presence is super. I was just wondering how long you guys think you'll be playing as a band. You guys have the talent to be
legends beyond your years, do you plan on perrforming until it's physically impossible? You guys are great, I love all of you. Plus I was wondering if you guys will ever play in Kansas? Nobody plays here and I know if you did a show here you'd make so many fans happy, especially me. Thanks guys, you really rock, keep up the tremendous energy and awesome music. (asked by goddess_megz)
CYRUS: We love playing music and playing shows. We hope to continue playing shows for a long time, as long as people like you guys come out and support. Also, we've played a few times in Lawrence, KS at the Bottleneck...maybe we'll come back someday!
-
Hey I was wondering if yall would ever re record some of your really old songs like Shadow and My Solution and all the others. thanx later
(asked by orangeslices212)
JORDAN: We have thought about it because Cyrus is not on the original recording, but we haven't really gone through with it.
-
What was your high school life like? Are you the type that say, "Look at us now?" If any, what sports did you all play in high school?
(asked by sandmanrulz)
IAN: My high school years were ok. I hated school. 90% of my friends dropped out. I graduated. Never played school sports, although my brother played football so I was the ball boy for team one year. All the girls in my school hated me. I used to fart in class. The guys seemed to enjoy my company though. I was fat in school so I am sure that didn't help much. You know what though. I wish I would have known this then, but high school doesn't mean too much. Once you graduate you lose touch with 98% of the people you knew. You’ll never see half them again. People move. People die. People just grow apart. When you go to college and graduate and go to get a job they never ask what your GPA was in high school or what classes you took. Or if you ever get suspended. No one cares. Just make a few close friends and keep them. Who cares if you are popular? Who cares if people like you? Just be yourself!
-
Hey guys, I know you're recording in Sept., but I was just wondering if you're planning a fall tour? If so when are those dates going to be put up?
(asked by xpinkishstarz)
CYRUS: As of right now we don't have a fall tour planned, but if we have any shows or anything booked, you'll see them right here at www.newfoundglory.com first.
-
I seen NFG at 2002 warped tour but was wondering when there coming back to Australia????
(asked by SHARNIE)
IAN: Right now I don't know any dates, but I have heard a rumor about us playing Australia later this year. We will post the dates on our site as soon as any are confirmed.
-
I was sitting in English class the other day and my teacher gave us a poem to read... Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost and I was wondering if you named your album after that or is it totally
irrelevant? (asked by dropkicktims)
STEVE: Indirectly it is named after the poem, but we really did it because of the movie "The Outsiders."
-
I am just learning to play guitar, any Suggestions on what kind of guitar to get and all of that sorta stuff?
(asked by dirtypoo32)
STEVE: Well, I learned how to play guitar on a Fender Squire. They are really easy to play and they are cheap. Good luck!
-
sedud retal ?ecneirepxe ruot ym fo tseb eht ekam ot woh no snoitseggus yna !dnab ym htiw rout no og ot touba ma I .sedud pu stuw
(asked by dadiceman)
JORDAN: You are a man of many talents kind sir....I guess the best thing is don't spend all your money, eat at Dennys(alot), don't have unprotected sex...get contact info from people you meet for the next time you are in town...bring a sleeping bag(you might need it alot), sleep on the beach.
-
I was wondering if there would be any way for the 7" split that you guys had planned to still be released. I love both of you so much and I think it would be awesome to hear you doing cover songs of each other.
(asked by papathomas)
CYRUS: I believe you're referring to the NFG/RxBandits split that was never released. I'm not sure if that will ever come out...we have not recorded any RxBandits covers, so as of now, there are no plans for that to be released.
-
Ian, you have a tattoo of 2 peoples faces on your right arm. Who are they and what do they mean to you?
(asked by hurleygurl15)
IAN: The tattoo I have on my arm says, "the day the music died." It’s a tattoo of Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Richie Valens. All three of them died in an airplane accident while on tour. I am a huge Buddy Holly fan. His worst nightmare was to die in a plane crash and so is mine. I tattooed them on my arm in hopes that they will look over me and keep me from being scared. Everyone reading this go buy a Buddy Holly cd one day and listen. It’s all punk rock, just a bit slower w/o distortion...very talented. When he died he was only 22....R.I.P.
-
Hey guys after your tour you going to start making a new album right?? Well I was wondering how long it usually takes you guys to record and finish an album?
(asked by blink182guy)
CYRUS: We're working on new stuff now...we hope to enter the studio in September. Every record takes a different amount of time to finish, but for our last record, "Sticks and Stones", we spent 8 weeks in the studio recording, and then about 2 weeks to mix and master the ecording...if you add in about 2 more weeks for the final approvals and stuff, and you have about 3 months. Oh yeah, we also spent 4 weeks before recording to practice and finish writing material for the record (it's called pre-production)...so the grand total was about 4 months for the making of "Sticks and Stones".
-
I noticed that there isn’t any swear words in the lyrics to your songs, but at your concerts you do swear. So do you guys try not to put swearing in your music or does it just come out that way?
(asked by New_Found_Glory03)
IAN: That is more of a Steve question. I think it just comes out that way. We all have trash potty mouths when we talk. I curse a lot, but when you curse on your record it limits who can buy it. If Steve felt very strong about something he may write lyrics with bad words. There was almost one "f--k" on the last cd but I was against it. Not sure how the others felt but we ended up not using it.
-
Steve & Jordan-
I've noticed that both of you often wear the same chain necklace with the lightning bolt and anchor. Does it have any special meaning? It looks pretty cool -where did you guys get it? (asked by angelrokstar)
JORDAN: No it doesn't really have any special meaning. Our friend Rusty from H20 gave them to us. He makes all sorts of cool jewelry.
-
This question is for Ian. I'm also fat and I play bass. When did you start playing bass and what got you into playing bass?
(asked by CarBiz)
IAN: I started playing bass when I was 17 because I sucked at guitar and bass had less strings. I think a large reason I wanted to play bass besides that was Jason Newsted. I started listening to punk around that time and Mark Hoppus, Mike Dirnt, and John Bell (ex Unwritten Law) were huge influences on me.
-
Cyrus, I was wondering how do you train your drum tech to set up your drums to your specifications each night? Do you have to sit down with him and tell him how to handle the drums, tune them, store them and where to place everything? I've always wondered that.
(asked by dwpatch)
CYRUS: It's a long process. I've been working with my drum tech for about 2 years now, so we're really good friends, and he knows me really well. But, we work together to make sure I'm comfortable with my setup, and then we usually mark (with tape) our drum rug/carpet, so that my setup doesn't change on tour...but sometimes he'll have to setup without our drum rug, and he's gotten really good at doing that. But, nobody's perfect, so it's a never-ending process. Both of us have learned a lot about drums throughout the years from each other and other people on tour.
-
I know you guys have tons of people telling you their favorite songs all the time... I was wondering what are your own faves of your songs?
(asked by NFGxGRLx4xUx15)
JORDAN: Mine I guess are Something I Call Personality, Understatement, Never Give Up, Story So Far, and 2'S & 3'S.
-
Hi guys, since the release of your new cd and your appearances on TRL and stuff there has been a lot of talk about who "true fans" are and how now there are so many "teenie boppers" at the shows etc. and I know that a lot of the old fans are feeling kind of upset and talking about how the new fans don't really appreciate the music and as an old fan I think that maybe some of the new fans are this way but that there are new fans out there that truly do appreciate the music I was wondering how you guys felt about this subject?
(asked by NothingButGloryCanSTAY)
JORDAN: The majority of our fans are true fans, but I'm not going to tell someone what they can and can't listen to. It's a free country. I guess I'd rather the young kids get into us than listen to the Backstreet Boys and actually find out about good music out there. Everyone has to start somewhere.
-
Hey there! Ok so who’s that guy that’s in your DVD that does Ian’s hair? I also saw him on the side of the stage at the show in Birmingham. (He had really cool yellow and red hair.) Is he a roadie? How old is he? He’s a fox whoever he is.
(asked by COPEwithTHEair)
IAN: Little one you are quite confused. The cute guy you saw on the side of the stage is Josh. He is on tour with good charlotte video taping them like Cheetah does for us. The guy on the DVD doing my hair is none other then RJ. You guys know RJ. He is the one that asked Cyrus if he could come to my wedding when he wasn't invited. He said I would take some pictures for you. So I invited him and paid him $50 for his time. A year and a half later that cute guy you saw in the DVD still hasn't given me my wedding pictures.... so RJ is his name. Just remember looks are not everything.... he may be cute but its more like a disrespectful cute in my eyes....

Hey guys! I live in Coral Springs Florida (where you guys are from) and I go to Douglas and heard some teachers and people that used to know you guys. I was just wondering where you guys used to hang out, work, and go to shows. Ya'll are awesome and I can't wait till the next show!
(asked by nfgchick104)
JORDAN: Me and Steve used to ride our bikes everywhere. We did go to Uncle Sams Music alot and went to shows in Miami before Club Q and Churchills had good shows sometimes. We would also go to shows in Orlando and stuff too. I worked at Red Lobster, Subway, Walgreens, Schlotzsky's Deli, Publix and La Brochette Bistro...Oh and Burger King too.
-
Hey guys what's up? I remember reading a while back that your cover version of Weezer's "Why Bother" was going to appear on the tribute album. I was just wondering why the song never appeared on the cd and if you guys plan on releasing it some time cuz I really wanna hear it. It's cool that one of my fav bands (you guys) covered a song from my all time fav band (Weezer).
(asked by GrEeN dAy PuNk)
IAN: This one goes way back so I am not even sure if my memory is correct....I remember being asked to do the Weezer cover. I remember the band talking about it. This was all before any promotion for the comp was released. I think we were busy touring non stop, and we knew we would not be done recording the song in time, so we told them we couldn't do it. But I guess they just promoted that we were on it anyway. It could have been miscommunication...not really sure. We never recorded the song, and I don't think we will in the future. At least there are no plans to now.

Hey Cyrus I noticed your drum setup is similar to Travis Barker's of Blink 182, except for the way your bass drum faces, is there a particular reason you play like that or do you just like the setup?
(asked by theanswer39)
CYRUS: I originally tried a setup like that while NFG was touring with FenixTx back in 2000. Damon had setup his drums like Travis ever since FenixTx toured with Blink 182. I found the setup comfortable almost immediately and have since adopted and adapted the setup for myself. By the way, for those who don't know, I believe the "Travis" setup refers to having a floor tom on both sides of you.

I got 'it's all about the girls' ep a while ago, and the cover is different to the one shown on the
site.. Mine’s blue, and has a small banner of photos along the top. I bought this in Melbourne, Australia. Is it a re-release of the original with different cover art? thanx! see u in august at the roundhouse in sydney!!!!! (asked by punkrockrebel41)
IAN: Yes the one with the blue cover is from a newer press. The old cover with a light blue cd is the first press...the old layout with a green cd is the 2nd and 3rd press (I Think?) and everything after those are the ones with the blue cover.
-
Dude I've heard about you getting your sticks for quite awhile now. And now (from the DVD) I see that you got them. Where can I get a pair...or 10?
*Keep the beats Pimpin, you drumming pimp you* (asked by lyane@earthlink.com)
CYRUS: Well...you can't really get them (unless I give them to you at a show). Vater Percussion (who makes my sticks), do not sell the models with my logo and stuff on them...they do, however sell the same model stick as I use, which is now called "Virgil's Assault"...it's a pretty big and heavy stick. Go to www.vater.com for more details, and maybe if enough people email them, they'll start selling my drumsticks.
-
Hey, I've been hearing rumors about a new band
called Orange Fish involving some of you guys, some of Blink-182, Chris Georggin, and Kristen Worden. So what's going on with this, and do I have my facts straight? What are the details? (asked by Berrito)
IAN: I have heard the band’s cd, but as far as I know none of those people are in the band...I will tell you about Orange Fish when I tell you about Blanco Meow... which is uhhhhh...never. Sorry dude. Some things need to remain unsaid....
-
Hey I know this is a hugely stupid question, but I have to ask. My friends and I were wondering if the Something Corporate song "if u c jordan" might have actually been written about NFG Jordan???? (I said it was a stupid question) (asked by melbut20)
JORDAN: No, it's not about me, but Andrew used to live with me in California. I think it's about some kid he went to high school with.
-
Hi, I just downloaded a live video of you playing
Understatement at Flake and Bake or something and I noticed that it was snowing loads and Jordan was wearing a Big jacket, Steve had long sleeves on and everything, but Ian was shirtless as usual. Do you ever play with a top on?? (asked by i_hate_england)
IAN: I do play with a shirt sometimes......a lot of the old shows and old videos I had a shirt on, but being on tour I realized since I sweat a ton. The sweat turns to mold in my laundry bag. Moldy shirts are as good as garbage, so I stopped wearing a shirt while I play. It saves me from having to bring 30 shirts on tour, and I have less laundry...plus I like showing off my man boobs. I’m fat and proud.
-
Hey...I have a question for whoever...why don’t you guys play the song "So Many Ways" live? I’ve seen you guys 3 or 4 times and never have you played it. It is 1 of my top 5 favorite NFG songs...it would be pretty cool, in my humble opinion, if you played the "unreleased" 2001 warped tour cd track, and have only a select few know it
(asked by Meerch119)
JORDAN: Is this really Jarett asking this question? Anyway, no one really knows it and it's kind of hard for me to sing.
-
Who's house did you guys practice at when you first started out? Did you ever get the cops called on you for disturbing the peace? Haha the police have shut down our practice three times and threaten to take all our equipment. Btw you guys rock! And so does the band Falling Sideways. haha, never skip the chance to advertise your band everyone.
(asked by wannabcyrus)
IAN: We started at my house, but we would practice at all of our garages except for Cyrus’s. I know that the police showed up sometimes. Its a lot better to rent out a practice space. Then you don't get yelled at and you can jam as loud as you want. It costs a bit of money, but it's worth it. You can find rental studios by looking in classified section of a local music magazine.
-
I'm in a band and every time we play I get really nervous until after the first verse. Do you guys still get nervous before every show or are you just excited to play?
(asked by chrisnapolitano)
JORDAN: I still get nervous before we play and I have to take like five poops before hand.. Try not to think about it and kick ass.. If you do it's hard to have a good show.
-
I was just wondering did you guys have to work to
pay for your instruments? Or did your parents buy them for you? Cause I have to work to get my guitar and it sucks. (asked by natleadsinger)
IAN: Well, I am not sure about the others; I can only speak for myself. My parents were very supportive of me wanting to learn how to play guitar. My dad and mom would always buy me the instrument at first. I had a job at 14 bagging groceries, so I would pay them some money back every week. Once they were happy with the amount I paid them they would cover the rest. At one point I had 2 jobs trying to save up a new bass that I never got because I spent all the money I made. That sucked. I feel your pain.
-
I still think I am missing something when "hell yeah rip" is said... because I still don't get it...
(asked by nfgcheerio@hotmail.com)
IAN: Sometimes when we record we throw in some inside jokes. That's one of them. It's sort of like Blanco Meow...for us to know, and for you to never find out...sorry :-)
-
Hey Cyrus, what’s up man? I’m Nick. I’m 15. I just wanted to let you know that you're one of my biggest influences to play drums. I’ve been playing for 12 years. I didn’t start following New Found until I was about 13, but now I have
all of the cd's and even the unreleased material. My question is who were your biggest musical influences? (asked by comfortablyblind)
CYRUS: I'm constantly being influenced by the music I hear and the performers I see in concert. Although I think it's pretty hard to answer this question, some of my biggest drumming influences recently have to be Travis from Blink 182, Brooks from Bad Religion, Derek from Alkaline Trio, and Yuri from MxPx.
-
Hey guys! I saw you guys in Milwaukee, the show was awesome, I’ve never had so much fun! I can't wait to see you soon! This question is for all of you. If you could be in any movie, what movie would it be and what actor/actress would you like to work with?
(asked by NewFoundGlory786)
IAN: To be honest I don't think I would be able to act. I would suck, but if I could, I would choose to work with Reese Witherspoon. Only because I am not sure who to pick and my wife is big fan of hers.
-
Hey Ian, I was just wondering if you were sad at all that Steve is no longer a part of Blue's Clues and what you thought about the new guy (I think his name is Joe)? If you would like I could send you a Joe Doll to keep Steve company.
(asked by nonamez)
IAN: To be honest I think the show sucks. It always did. I just like the Steve doll. I was shopping and saw a shelf full of dolls looking at me and they all talked. So I bought a few. I never liked the show, and don't really care that Steve left. Even though he quit, I still have 3 of the dolls. I knew it was smart to buy more then one.
-
Hey guys you rock, what is your favorite song off of Nothing Gold Can Stay? No one really talks about that album a lot, and I think it's amazing.(asked by NFGChikki)
JORDAN: I like 2's & 3's as well as Passing Time.
-
I just wanted to ask you guys what your first gig was like? My band played our first gig last night and it went wrong my D string snapped in the sound check so I could not play most our set and then our Lead guitarist snaps his E string. Did you every have this problem? (asked by Today is on fire)
JORDAN: Yeah we sucked for about the first six years of our career.
-
Hey Ian, what kind of bass strings do you use, and
do you have certain pickups on your fender basses or are they just stocked pickups? (asked by BlackandBlue4567)
IAN: I use Fender p bass's Seymour Duncan quarter pound basslines pickups and fender strings (e string 105 or 100 and g string 50 or 45).
-
Well guys I'll have to give this one to Jordan. What's up with u and saying things backwards? I mean your really good at it as a child growing up with A.D.D I tend to be ok with it how could I get better????????? Thanx and rock on to all of you guys.
(asked by gink_regrub_girl)
JORDAN: I love saying things backwards.. It was juts a stupid thing we were doing one day in the van... A.D.D. gives you a good excuse not to pay attention..
-
Ian, why are you such a pimp?? No really though, do you guys think you would ever go on tour with Blink 182 again, like how they did a tour with Green Day? 2 bands like you guys would be the greatest! You guys and Blink 182 are the best bands out there!
(asked by GrandpaReefer2)
IAN: I am not sure what the others feel, but I am a huge blink fan, and I would love to tour with them again. There might be a better chance of the tour happening in another country. I guess only time will tell....
-
Hey guys. My band's coming to showcase for some majors in the U.S in the next month. Were gonna be in L.A and New York. What was your first showcase like? Also do you guys recommend any clubs in L.A that rock? Keep it Street!
(asked by zarbi-j)
CYRUS: We actually never played a real "showcase" for any labels. I guess we were Lucky, maybe. Richard and Stefanie from Drive-Thru Records flew to Florida and watched 2 shows that we had booked as regular shows (one was at a skate park and the other was a birthday party at a house). If I have any advice about showcases though, I would say to always be careful that a label is signing you because they like your music and believe in you, because there are too many people out there that only care about making money and selling records, and not enough people who truly love what they do and love finding good music and good bands. Good Luck!
-
Hey guys, I was wondering how involved you were in like, the design of your album and what songs are in which order and things of that nature. Thanks!
(asked by abunt182)
CYRUS: We are 100% involved in everything involved with our band. Throughout the years, however, we've been fortunate enough to meet people that have worked for our band and helped us sometimes with ideas and have done things that we cannot do. Every record is different though, and with each release brings a whole new set of opinions and thought about the layout and song order. However, like everything else with our band, nothing gets done without us approving it first.
-
I must say it seems as if Chad doesn't love us anymore. He's the only one that hasn't answered a question yet, So I was wondering what's up w/ that Chad? And if you decide to answer one I wanted to know what your tattoo says on your right arm? And even if you don't answer this I'll still love ya just as much. Oh don't worry I love the rest of ya too!
(asked by 2punk4you)
CHAD: I'm a really slow typer!! There's a tattoo on my right wrist that says "stay gold." On the inside of my right arm I have H20's logo. On my left arm it say "what i have in my heart i'll take to my grave." On my left forearm I have a BJORK tattoo. Sorry it took so long. I still got the Love!
-
Hey Ian my sister likes your cousin Andrew. They went out on a couple dates. Has he told u we’re almost like family? lol just wanna know lol cant wait to come see u guys at asbury park you guys rock man can’t wait
(asked by BLinkme19)
IAN: I think you are getting lied to. Anyone who says they are my cousin is telling a lie. I don’t have a cousin named Andrew. If they were my cousin they would know I have been a loser my whole life and I’m fat, so they wouldn't be bragging about it. Trust me. Hey Andrew, I think you got caught in a lie...hahahahahaha
-
Cyrus, what do you eat backstage or what’s your favorite food???
(asked by StreakStud23)
CYRUS: A lot of times I just snack backstage. I'll eat a piece of fruit, have some chips and salsa, or maybe make a sandwich. I drink too much soda, but also try to mix in water and Gatorade closer to show time. I try not to eat too much candy because that's bad for you. As far as favorite foods, it's hard to say, but I've been eating a lot of sushi lately, and like almost everyone else out there, I could eat ice cream all day long!
-
I see on the bottom of the site there is a link to Drive-Thru Records, and Geffen Records. Are you guys no longer on MCA Records?
(asked by punkr0ckd0rk)
IAN: MCA is no longer a label. We are now on Geffen/Drive-Thru.
-
Hey Chad I know that you don't know me of course you wouldn't but anyway. Every time you guys come to Las Vegas I always see you first and you always seem to notice me. I may be like crazy but its weird. I know, I know you meet people everyday. Well I was the girl after the show that had the "old school" NFG stuff on MAY 30, 2003 in Las Vegas. I had the shirt and the poster. I just wanted to say that you are the coolest and it was awesome how you guys took care of your fans from bad security. It was awesome!
Question: How did you feel about that moment that you saw how the security were treating the people at the Las Vegas show? (asked by nfgschick)
CHAD: I felt really bad because those security guards are supposed to be there to help and they caused the trouble. I wish I could of turned into the HULK and thrown all the guards out. Oh well I just hope the kids aren’t to scared to come back. We will make sure the venue doesn’t let those guards back for next time.
-
Cyrus, I heard that you taught yourself to play drums? Why didn't you take lessons, even though it's now obvious that you don't need them, but still?
(asked by funciegirl89)
CYRUS: I didn't mean to teach myself how to play the drums...I didn't really know where to go to get drum lessons. I had also had some bad experiences with prior guitar lessons that I took, so I had always just been messing around with playing beats on anything I could find (tables, desks, walls, my legs, etc.), and by the time I borrowed a drum set for the 1st time, I could already play a very basic beat (and I mean basic). However, I can see myself taking lessons sometime down the road, because I've always thought that although I can play drums, there are some things that I never learned because nobody was there to tell me to learn them. I never practiced rudiments...I never had someone teach me different grips...I never learned other drumming styles besides the music that I listened to...so don't think that lessons are bad!
-
I guess this one is for Ian. I was just wondering why the songs Tell Tale Hart and Nacho Abalafa (if thats how you spell it )sound the same And Ian you inspired me to play bass you rock.
(asked by chadz the best)
IAN: I have a great answer for this one. I believe you may have been one of the many who got ripped off buying the cd "Waiting." For all of you who read this, that was not a real release. This is someone selling fake copies to a cd we made ourselves which is fake too. It's like if you make a cd of yourself making fart noises and gave 20 copies to friends. That’s what “Waiting” is. Now to the question. Before a song is done we make up fake names for the songs. In the break on tell tale heart I say "nacho abalafa barnacle loofties" So when we had no title for the song yet, we called it “Nacho Abalafa” for short. We did that so we all knew what song we were talking about. All the lyrics were not written yet, and they changed over time, so thats why it sounds different then the final version.
-
Hey guys, I heard that Chad was going into the studio with Hazen St. in September. Is this true? I thought you guys were going to be recording around that time. What does this mean for the new album?
(asked by Chadwick)
CHAD: Yes, I am going into the studio before the end of the year with Hazen Street. No definite date has been set. NFG is starting in early October and a bunch of the songs have already been written. Hazen Street’s schedule will not conflict with NFG.
-
My friends and I were chillin by the pool one day and we heard the song "Come on Ilene." Do you think that you would consider re-recording the song for us?
(asked by cheezball055055)
IAN: If you want to hear a cover of that song buy a cd by Save Ferris. They covered it already. But when I was younger and I was a wrestler in my basement in NY that was my intro music when I was "Chunky Blue Cheese."
-
Hey guys, just wondering, do you ever get in arguments over a song or songs? Do you all have different views in the way it's supposed to be or not supposed to be? In other words do you ever get in fights over creative differences?
(asked by NFG Girl326)
CYRUS: All the time. That's why we are five people in a band, not a band run by one member. However, we've also known each other and worked together for a long time, and we've gotten to know how to communicate and work out differences better. There will always be some creative differences, but when we work those out, it makes our songs and moreover our band even stronger and better. Basically we're all in this together, so even with differences we know that our band and our music is tight and more important than any little argument we may have.
-
Hey, this is for Chad. A lot of rumors are going around that you are dating Kelly Osbourne. Is that true? NFG ROCKS!!
(asked by xBenji_Jordan_Brat)
CHAD: No it is not true and that rumor came out of nowhere. We are only friends and there has never been anything more than that. I’m not saying that to hide anything either. I do have a girlfriend, but it is not Kelly.
-
I have been looking for the EP It’s All About The Girls everywhere, but I can't find it and I absolutely love it! Do you have any ideas?
(asked by nfgchica3)
IAN: We have thousands of them in boxes in storage, but since we are just keeping those to collect dust, you should go to an independent record store. If they don't have it most of them will order it for you if you ask them to. I am sure you can also find somewhere on the internet to order it.
-
I was just wondering did you guys have to work to pay for your instruments or did your parents buy them for you? Cause I have to work to get my guitar and it sucks.
(asked by natleadsinger)
CYRUS: Everyone had different situations. My dad bought me my first drum set, but I've bought a lot of stuff since then myself. If you work for your guitar, I bet you won't take having it for granted and you'll use it a lot. I have to say that it's worth it. If my parents wouldn't have bought the drum set, I would have eventually. It would have just taken longer.
-
This question is for Chad. I know that you are "straight edge" and a vegetarian and what-not, from the DVD. I just wanted to know why you chose to be straight edge? I don’t drink or do drugs but it's just because I don’t like it, not to be "straight edge". Anyways yeah just curious and also I’ve seen you guys live 3 times and I just wanted to say you are one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen.
(asked by there are too many brittneys)
CHAD: Thanks for your compliments on our live performance. Playing live shows is my favorite part about being in a band. To answer your question, I never chose to be "straight edge" it just sort of happened. I have always been against the use of drugs. All my friends drank, smoked, tripped. etc., when I was a young teenager.
-
Hey what is your practice schedule like? My band practices like 2-3 times a week, what about you guys?
(asked by Coralspringsnative)
IAN: We practice like 3 times a year. We are all lazy, and after getting off a tour we want to watch TV and do nothing. When we do practice, Jordan is never there. We just jam new songs. It’s very rare though. We practice a lot right before starting to record a new cd, so most of the time we use our shows or soundchecks as practice.
-
Hey Cyrus, I was just wondering if you’ve ever had braces?? Your teeth are so beautiful! (asked by Cryus_rocks)
CYRUS: No braces for me. Both of my brothers had them and so did my mom. I guess I was really lucky. But I've been wearing glasses/contacts since I was 4 years old, so you can imagine how many times I been called "four eyes." That joke got old real quick.
-
There is a rumor going around so I just thought I should ask. Is Chad in Shai Hulud?
(asked by sfnmusicny)
CHAD: No I’m not in Shai Hulud now. I used to be in Shai Hulud. I sang (screamed) on a few records. Check it out. Sorry if my voice scares you!
Shai Hulud – "Profound Hatred of Man" (CD – EP) Shai Hulud – "Hearts Once Nourished with Hope and Compassion" (CD – LP) Shai Hulud/Indecision – "Fall of Every Man" (Split CD)
-
Do you guys get pissed off when people ask you questions about your inside jokes? Because whenever I come on this site the "Ask NFG" question almost always have to do with your jokes from the DVD.
(asked by Astroturf)
IAN: I think its kind of funny when people talk about DVD stuff. See some of the footage on that DVD is from 1997 so the jokes are so old to us, which in a way makes it even funnier. One thing though. If you want to know who Blanco Meow is DON"T ASK ME!!!!! Ask Jordan or Steve. But to really answer your question, no I do not get pissed.
-
Do your arms get tired after playing drums for a while at a concert so bad that you want to stop or are you used to it???
(asked by SingtheSorrow03)
CYRUS: Well, I can't stop, because then everyone else would stop, so I guess I have kind of got use to playing for a long time. Sometimes I get really, really tired and feel like I'm going to pass out. That's when the adrenaline in me helps. I'm so excited that I'm playing a show in front of people that I forget about how exhausted I am and I keep playing...it's that simple!
-
Hey guys! This one is for Chad. When you jump off the stage at the concert and run around the stadium a lot of fans tend to grab at you. What do you think of that? Do you think they are freaks or just normal fans? (BTW the Civic Tour kicked ass!!) Come home to South Florida and perform soon!
(asked by abbabyxoxox)
CHAD: I don’t mind so much when they say what’s up or hug me or slap me five or whatever. It just sucks when they try to steal my dog tags or my hat. It sucks when some girls grab my package(wiener)! It hurts my testicles. It is sexual harassment haha! They’re just excited so its all good.
-
Hey how did you guys get your 1st demo out there, for any of us who are starting a band and how did you get started?
(asked by schiggy)
IAN: Our first demo is "It's All About The Girls." We just started touring and selling copies at shows and gave a ton of copies away for free to help promote ourselves. It was a long process. Now looking back, I wish we gave out less copies of that cd. Once Cyrus joined the band we wished he played the drums on the album.
-
One of my favorite songs from you guys is "Broken Sound" off Nothing Gold Can Stay. That song means a LOT to me and others. What was the inspiration behind the song?? Also, at the Civic Tour show in Orlando I held up a sign to play the song and you all read it and even mentioned it on the mic on stage, but it was never played. What happened? Either way I still love you guys and you have impacted my life, so thanks a million!
(asked by NewFoundLaurenie)
STEVE: Broken Sound is also one of my favorites off NGCS as well. It's better to leave the meaning of the song to your imagination, rather than tell you what it means to me, just because everything I write I want to be general, so anybody can relate to it no matter what situation.
-
Cyrus, what cymbals did you use when recording Sticks and Stones? I love the sound but I can't seem to figure out what you use. Let me know. Thanks man.
(asked by nfgpunker45)
CYRUS: To be honest, the most I know is that they were all Zildjian cymbals. The cymbals were owned by Mike Fasano, who was our studio drum tech. He also owned the Pork Pie drum kit that we used, as well as about 6 of the 7 snares that we used while recording. Sorry that I don't know. I'm kind of upset myself that I never wrote it down. However, live I use completely different cymbals because the rooms and microphones are way different than a studio.
-
Hey, When you guys said you booked your own tour on the internet, was this before "Nothing Gold Can Stay", and how did you go about doing this?
(asked by Wizardfulloflies)
IAN: We used to look on different websites that had listings of shows all around the area we lived in and all around the USA. I am not sure if the sites even exist anymore. One was a floridacore site which we used and then I think we looked at the revelations records site as well. Once we found the shows that were around we would do research to find a contact to one of the bands playing the show. Then we kissed ass or begged to get on the shows. Sometimes we played for free. Sometimes we played just for gas money. Sometimes we drove 12 hours to find out there was no show anymore. Sometimes we just never got the shows to begin with. That's pretty much how we did it.
-
If you any of you could have played for another band other than NFG, which band would it be?
(asked by nerdymcfinkle)
IAN: Well, I wouldn't trade my spot in NFG for the world, but if I had to choose another band, I guess I would pick .......
-
Hey guys! I saw you guys in Milwaukee, the show was awesome, I've never had so much fun! I can't wait to see you soon! This question is for all of you. If you could be in any movie, what movie would it be and what actor/actress would you like to work with?
(asked by NewFoundGlory786)
CYRUS: I would love to be in any movie. Unfortunately, I think it's really hard to act. We’ve had to sort of act in some of our music videos, and that's without any dialogue! So if I was ever lucky enough to actually be able to act and get a part in a movie, I wouldn't be picky at all!
-
I was at the sum 41 nfg gig @ festival hall in Melbourne, Australia and I just wanted to ask Ian what set up do you take on the road and what advice can you offer me and my band for getting known about?
(asked by newdarizum)
IAN: On tour lately I have been using either 2 or 4 (8x10) Ampeg cabinets (depends on size of stage and room for cabinets). I have been running 1 Ampeg SVT 4 pro head and 1 SVT classic head at the same time. I use Fender P bass's with Seymour Duncan 1/4 lb., Basslines pickups. Now as for how these are set up, that’s a good question for Steve Looker my bass tech. He is the man behind the bass sound.
-
Hey guys. I think your awesome, but I’ve got a question. How did you get a label? I’ve read somewhere that blink helped you with that... rock on!
(asked by travis_fan)
CYRUS: Actually, blink didn't help us at all with getting a label. Although they did bring us on their US tour in 2001, and helped us gain a huge following. We signed with Drive Thru Records years before we met and hung out with blink. It was actually thanks to a little help from the band Midtown, who passed our CD along to Drive Thru. After a few meetings with the label, we were signed. Drive Thru Records had also gone and signed its own deal with MCA Records (which is now Geffen Records), and that deal allowed bands like us, FenixTX (RIP), Midtown, Something Corporate, Finch, and The Starting Line, to be picked up by MCA. That's how we made it on the label we have now. It was a lot of luck, a little bit of help from some friends, but mostly hard work and touring on our part. But Blink 182 didn't get us our deal.

Alright, this is for everyone: If you were having a dinner party and you could invite any three people, who would you invite? Anyone, living or dead?
(asked by motogirl)
IAN: I would invite Buddy Holly, Reese Witherspoon (because my wife really wants to meet her) and my wife (so she can meet Reese).
JORDAN: I would probably invite Kurt Cobain because he probably knows how to party. Also I would invite Gordon Shumway a.k.a ALF (if you don’t know who that is now you never did) and Joe Pesci (I’m funny how.... like a clown... do I amuse you... what’s so god damn funny?
CYRUS: Because I'm a nice person, I would invite 4 people... Ian, Steve, Jordan, and Chad... better make another place setting!

I’m sure yall get crazy comments a lot, but I’m the craziest. Did yall ever listen to Nirvana, have any favorite songs, or just plain worship them like I do? I want you to know that you guys are my second favorite band and I worship you almost as much, but you guys need to do something with Dave Grohl. lol. Also, have you ever thought of ever doing some grungier songs? Thanx. KURT COBAIN, DAVE GROHL, AND KRIST NOVOSELIC ROCK!!!!
(asked by KurtDaveKrist)
IAN: We are all huge Nirvana fans. Great choice for a favorite band. NFG used to play “Son of A Gun” a long time ago. I had the pleasure of meeting Dave Grohl at the Kerrang Awards in Europe. It was amazing to meet someone as huge as he is, who is still very down to earth. I got my picture taken with him. It is in the photo section on the site. As for my favorite songs by them, I would say...
Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle Sliver Been A Son Drain You

What's up Chad? We want to know, what does the big tattoo on your upper left arm say? We tried to read it on the DVD but you're either hopping around or moving around to much. We also want to know, what is the picture above the writing?
(asked by youknowme88sxe)
CHAD: My tattoo says, "What I Have In My Heart I'll Take To The Grave." Above it is a burning heart. I do hop around too much. Got to get exercise somehow.

This question is for Cyrus. I have been thinking about taking up the drums, but I have heard you need to play the piano for a couple of years, did you ever play the piano? Because if you did, I better just give up my hopes of playing the drums because I have no interest in the piano.
P.S. I saw you guys in Minneapolis with Less Than Jake and GC and you guys were awesome! (asked by jorgyfound)
CYRUS: You don't need to play piano in order to learn drums...they are two completely different instruments...I did learn a lot of stuff on the piano when I was younger (years before I started playing drums), but it only helped me understand music in general...I learned how to read music, and how to play it by ear, but I think it helped me more with guitar and bass playing (because you're playing actual notes), rather than drums. With drums (and pretty much any other instrument), it just takes practice. Even though it may feel awkward at first, once you start to learn the motions of drumming, it gets easier. Just ask Ian, our bass player. He's getting better everyday at the drums!

Hi Jordan! First I want to say SMITHS KICKS ASS!! Yeah! I think New Found Glory is a great band. I’m from Brazil. In Brazil there are a lot of NFG Fans!!! So do you intend to come here some day? I’m going to the USA and I intend to go to a New Found Show!
(asked by The-Smiths)
JORDAN: Ahhh yes the Smiths do indeed kick my ass and yours. Anyway, Brazil sounds amazing and hopefully we will be able to go there. We are recording a new record right now so who knows what’s going to go down this year. But I hope we do get to go there. The surf is amazing and I am sure the shows go off.... ta ta for now
-
Ian do you get cold when u don't have your shirt on when your on stage?
(asked by SingtheSorrow03)
IAN: Yes, a lot of times I do. For instance, when we do shows outdoors in the snow. But it’s better then having moldy clothes in my laundry bag.
-
Hey Cyrus I've trying to find a place where I can buy your signature sticks, but I can't find them anywhere. Do you know where I could buy some?
(asked by atlantanfg)
CYRUS: It’s funny that you ask that. As of right now you can't buy my signature sticks. You can buy the same model I use (Vater Sticks, Virgil's Assault Model), but I'm actually working on designing a signature stick right now. I'm working on it with Vater Percussion (visit them at www.vater.com), and I think we're going to release it early next year. So try to be patient, and you might be soon be able to find my sticks in stores!
-
This is question a for Jordan. We all know that you have a lot of singing talent, but not many people know that you can play instruments too. My question is, if you could trade with anyone in your band and play an instrument instead of sing, what would it be?
(asked by sexypunkrocker)
JORDAN: If I could trade any instrument with someone it would probably be with Steve because playing geeetar is fun and I’d love to just hang out in the back and jump around and not be up front. Plus it would be hilarious to see Steve sing unless we were covering a Promise Ring song.
-
Hey guys I just wanted to know if you guys are ever thinking of putting out a live album. That would be awesome. Also is your next album gonna be any different from the last album or more towards the same? And by the way thanks for inspiring me to go for my dreams. Peace
(asked by ChadsTwin
CYRUS: We've been thinking about putting out live stuff for a while. I'm sure you will see some live stuff out there eventually. Our next record will definitely be different than the last record, but we're just starting to write and jam songs, so it's too early to say anything specific.
-
I saw on the amp in your Head On Collision video that it said sXe. Are you guys all sXe? If so do you consider yourselves a sXe band?
(asked by xXabrokenheartXx)
CHAD: No we are not a straight edge band. Just me. I try to represent sXe as much as I can. I hope to open some kids to a movement that they might not be aware of. I try not to preach to much because people can do what they want.
-
I was wondering what you guys thought about the whole downloading songs thing. It seems like a lot of artists are pretty pissed about it all.
(asked by punkrockin_one)
IAN: For me, I don't give a crap. I don't download stuff myself. I can say that. It is stealing, I agree with that, but the thing that makes me most upset is when people download your songs before they are finished and judge your music when its only half completed. That to me kind of sucks. I am pretty sure that the label gets upset though. Think of it this way: You start a business and put a lot of money into it, and then people steal from you. How would you feel?

Hey. I was wondering what happen to MCA records? Did Geffen buy them out or something? And do you think Geffen with have a change on your sound?
(asked by nfg074nfg@aol.com)
CYRUS: MCA Records is no longer a company. It was kind of taken over by Geffen. Even I don't understand all of the details, but basically for us, nothing is different. Even though there are some new faces and people that are working on our records, it's actually probably better for us. And one of the best things about Geffen is that they will not mess with a good thing, so they won't even come close to trying to change our sound. We are extremely happy with the way that everything has been happening lately, and we look forward to a great career with Geffen.
-
I don't get it. Ian gets so many girls, and here I am a bassist in a band myself, yet no girls go screaming for me when I take my shirt off. What is your secret, Ian?
(asked by cereal_thrilla85)
IAN: You want to know my secret. My secret is I am married. Once you have a girlfriend most of the girls want you because they like the fact that you can commit to one girl. Once that girlfriend is gone, trust me on this, they will have no interest in you at all. Plus put a label on yourself. For example, I am 190 lbs of pimp. In the end who really cares? If these girls knew me in high school they would have hated my guts. They don't love me, they just love my doggie style.
-
Hey Chad, this question goes out to you because I've never seen you answer a question. I'm straight edge too, and I just wanted to know if it's been hard for you to remain a straight edge your entire life and also, what's been the hardest experience for you with it?
(asked by FReNCHToaST_VeGaN)
CHAD: No, it has not been hard for me to remain straight. It is something I’m extremely passionate about and besides being on tour all the time helps since I get to see the way other bands act while there all high or drunk! Some of them act pretty embarrassing. I’m pretty embarrassing to but at least I can remember all the stupid things I did in the morning.

I realize that NFG has a bundle of really choice 'un-released' songs available on a hodge podge mix of singles, bootlegs, and hard to get promos. It is widely agreed upon that these songs need some kind of consolidation. What are the odds of NFG finally placing all these amazing songs on one complete classic style 'B' Sides album?
(asked by circlesandsquares@libero.it)
CYRUS: There's a chance for that. We've been thinking about that for a while, but we don't have plans to release something like that as of now. You may have to wait a little bit. Maybe we'll get even more B-sides from this new recording and then finally release something. Who knows?
-
I'm not sure what the song is called, but I do know that is was the theme song for the movie Robin Hood: The Prince of Thieves. I was wondering if you knew where i could find it?
(asked by knghrtz831)
Jordan: The song is originally by Bryan Adams and the is called (Everything I Do) I Do It For You. You can find it on our album "From The Screen To Your Stereo."
-
This is for the whole band,Who are some of your favorite heavy metal bands? Thanks!
(asked by carion)
IAN: Great question...to name just a few:
Warrant, Poison, Alice Cooper, Death Becomes You (DBY), S.O.D., Body Count, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Dream Theater, Queensryche, Faith No More, Guns N’ Roses, Megadeth, Ozzy, Pantera, Tesla, and Slayer.

Live webcam!!!! 1. It's so awesome! 2.
Yesterday I noticed, Cyrus that there were like 5 or so different snare heads, and like 5 or so different kits? Are they all yours? 3. Who are all the people in the studio with you? And 4. You're an awesome guy and drummer and all, but pull up your pants! Crack kills man. (asked by canibeyourshadow)
CYRUS: Most of the drum kits are mine, but some of the drums belong to Mike, our studio drum tech. To answer your 3rd question, go and check the previous diary entries, I explained most of that in one of the posts. And lastly...STOP LOOKING AT MY BUTT!!!
-
Hey, I have a question for Steve Looker. What kind of things do Guitars Tech do, and how do become a guitar tech? Thanks!
(asked by nfg074nfg@aol.com)
IAN: Well since I am in my house and Steve Looker is not here I will answer for him. To be a guitar tech for NFG you must first be very bitter and complain all day. Second you need to get a 2-way sidekick and talk on it all day and night. During a show day you would have to set all the amps up, change strings on 8 instruments and tune guitars/bass’s during the show. You also have to set stage levels so the stage sounds good and order all of our strings/pics/guitar straps. Remember I sweat a lot and my guitar straps smell so bad. He has to wear them to tune me up...sucks! There is a lot more to the job then just that, but since I have never been a guitar tech, I don't really know the answer. Oh, also you have to be mad and make fun of everyone. He also has to learn all the songs so if a band member can’t play a show, he can fill in.
-
What’s up Jordan? Nuthin much here. I was wondering how long you have been singing because I listen 2 a lot of punk Rock and you seem 2 be my favorite singer. I would like 2 know the warm ups you do before you sing because I’m a singer myself and would like 2 get better. I practice every day with my band and would really like 2 have some of your tips.
P.S. your bonus track on sticks and stones scared the crap out of me!!! (asked by grassstainsrocker69)
JORDAN: Umm I used to do a couple of different warm ups. I had one that I was using that didn’t really work. I was losing my voice more by using it because it was like singing for an hour before singing for an hour. Then I stopped and would just sing along to my favorite bands and that helped. It’s very hard to keep your voice strong on tour. I’m not the best singer in the world. All vocal teachers are different so you have to do what works best for you.
-
Cyrus, did you listen to any of the demos sent to you in August/September? My band sent one and I come home every day and check the caller ID to see if my favorite band called me to say that we suck! Oh well, if it means anything we're called My Niece Chloe, this was my last option.
(asked by nexttanuthin)
CYRUS: First off, I want to thank everyone who's sent in demos, which came in from all over the world! I've been listening to them here and there. Some of them are pretty good, while some of them aren't so good.
My main reasons for the whole demo post are as follows:
- I wanted to remind everyone that you can send us your demos, you don't have to break in backstage to sneak them to us.
- One of our first big breaks was when MxPx heard our demo and later gave us a few shows. You never know what could happen.
- Lastly, and unfortunately this is the least likely to happen, but I am interested in recording, and I'm always looking for bands that I may be able to record. Right now I'm super busy, so I don't have time to record, but maybe someday I will. So keep the demos coming in.

How is it that Jordan, Ian and Steve are JEWISH, but they are in a CHRISTIAN band?? I don't know about everyone else, but I would like to know how this happened...
(asked by NFGChad)
IAN: I think I know how it happened...we are not a Christian band.
-
You know the song clip you played during the live broadcast. Will that song change a lot before it is actually finished? It sounds so cool already.
(asked by moore182)
CYRUS: The song you heard has already changed, but so far none of the changes are major. Most of the things that we have added are to layer the sound, to thicken it up in some parts. A lot of the things are background things, other sounds, backup vocals, lead guitars, etc. But, until we hand in the CD to Geffen, any song is up for change...I just don't thing this song will change too much, if any.

I am an avid lover of NFG and small venues with hush-hush shows. Have you guys ever played at Chain Reaction in Anaheim, California? Would you ever consider playing in that small venue (again)?
(asked by p i n k s h o e l a c e s)
IAN: Yes we have played there a bit. Twice in 2003. We played a show under the name Styx and Stones with Breakdance Vietnam and Over It. We also showed up and played on the Drive-Thru Invasion Tour. If we play there again, I know for sure it will be unannounced. It’s more fun to just show up and play. It makes the people who were there appreciate the show more. In total we have played their 5 times: 12/03/99, 02/18/00, 11/26/00, 03/24/03 and 09/08/03. What an amazing club Chain Reaction is....great memories.

Hey guys! I finally got around to checkin' this site, which wasn't much ever since school started, but I saw the cams up, and I was just wondering: don't you guys find it a bit creepy to have the cams up in three places? Like I know you guys are possibly doing it so your fans can see what you do, but doesn't it feel weird knowing there's a camera watching you in those three places? Thanks!
(asked by pinklaydee06)
CYRUS: The webcam idea is both a good and bad thing. Obviously, it's good that everyone can feel a part of the recording process, and it's another way of interacting with us in the studio, along with chat rooms and networked games, etc. However, you're totally right that it's creepy...but we're getting used to it...and the studio has more than two rooms, so there are places for us to go to get away from the cameras...but use the cameras for what they are for...watch us record, and if you have questions, go to our chat room and ask us, or post them here!
-
Just a pointless question, but I've been wondering this for a while. On your 3 full length albums, each has 12 tracks. Is the number 12 significant for NFG or is there any other reason why their always 12? Lookin forward to the new album this year!! You guys kick ass! Thnx.
(asked by whitwhke)
IAN: There is no reason why there are always 12. My guess is some bands do that because Publishing companies only pay you for 11 songs, and by contract you only need 10 originals. Even though that probably has nothing to do with our reasons. For "Nothing Gold Can Stay" we only recorded 12 songs and they all were released that record. On the "Self-Titled" cd we did 13 songs. "So Many Ways" was a b-side used for the foreign releases. Finally, for "Sticks and Stones" we did 14 and the extra 2 were used for foreign releases as well. I can tell you this... our new cd will have more then 12 on it, so the streak will be broken.

While on tour with Blink 182 in 2001, did Travis and you hang out alot and share tips and what not?
(asked by Roderick_And_Becks)
CYRUS: Well, let me put it to you this way. Travis is a pretty shy guy at times. I'd have to say I am shy at times, too. If you put that together, than this won't seem as weird. Although I would say "hi" and stuff like that to him, I didn't hang too much with Travis. I did get a lesson or two from him, though, and I'm ever grateful for those. But although I didn't communicate with him much, just being on tour with Blink allowed me to sit there and watch Travis play. I have to say that I learned more from that than anything. With the same songs being played every night, I was able to analyze his drumming, visually, and then think of that when I would try and play along to Blink CD's. It really helped me figure out a lot about his drumming, and how he "writes" and arranges some of his beats.
-
Hey I noticed on your site something about the e.p., “It’s All About The Girls.” I have the cd, but it has a different cover. I bought it in the fall of 2000. The cover on mine is blue with a wire on the top. Why is mine different? Thanks a lot.
(asked by nfgrocks7)
IAN: The original version of that cd is sold out. The first press with th original cover had a light blue cd inside. The few pressed after that had a green cd inside. Then we decided we wanted to change the layout. For what reason, I have no idea, but the songs on both are the same. Since Cyrus was not the drummer then, we really consider "Nothing Gold Can Stay" to be our first release. "It's All About The Girls" was more like a demo that got released.....
-
If you guys could listen to only one song for the rest of your life what would it be? How about only one album?
(asked by wirthka)
CYRUS: I think I would probably find some really long classical song without words, so it wouldn't get repetitive so quick, and then the words could never annoy me. If it was one album, I would probably try and grab a good compilation of long classical songs for the same reason.
-
I live in Florida (West Palm Beach) and you guys never play a concert down around here. My question is when are you, because I love your music and want to go to another one of your concerts. ROCK ON!!
(asked by nfggurl3)
IAN: My answer to that is quite a simple one. We have played a ton in west palm in the past. Look at www.setlist.com and search New Found Glory. It will list the times we have played there. The reason we have not played there recently is an easy one also. We don't live in Florida anymore. We moved 2 years ago. So in order to play there we have to have a tour booked. Either that or drive for 4 days straight to get there. Sorry. We will be back to Florida on Warped Tour 2004.
-
Hey I’m a really big fan of NFG, you guys rock!! Well my question is if you guys weren’t in a band what do you think you would be doing now? Thanks bye!
(asked by NFGCHADLUVUR23)
JORDAN: Hmmmm...If I wasn’t in a band I would be hanging out with Jarett East, working at Walgreens, eating choco tacos in the bathroom and probably going to school.
-
In Blink-182's DVD, Urethra Chronicles 2, you guys are featured at the end in the "friends" bit. How long have the 8 of you actually been friends for and will you guys ever tour with each other over here in the uk?!
(asked by melon182)
IAN: To be honest, I don't know if we are even friends. I think we are more of acquaintances. Cheetah did both the NFG and Blink DVD so we asked him to hook us up and get us on the blink one. I think friends are people you hang out with or talk to by email or phone. I don't do any of that with the Blink guys. They all have wives and kids and they are always busy. Plus I don't live near then. I can say this: I love their band and I respect them as people. I've been a Blink fan since I was 16 or 17 and I'm 26 now. As for touring with Blink in Europe.. we were supposed to, but Tom needed back surgery and the tour was cancelled. I guess it's up to Blink if that tour will ever be re-scheduled.
-
Hey Jordan, what song or songs did you work with MXPX on for their new album?
(asked by punk_rock_rox666)
JORDAN: I sang on two songs, "Kings Of Hollywood" and "You're Not Alone."
-
Hey guys hows recording goin? I hope its all good because everyones really looking forward to it! Well my question is for whoever wants to answer it! lol. Ok if NFG was to do a "Behind The Music" what moments in your career would highlight on? Oh and when are we gonna see Chad, Jordan, or Ians crib? Well yall are the greatest band and yall mean so much to me! I love you guys!
(asked by ImInLoveWithSteve)
IAN: If we ever did a "Behind The Music," the truth would come out. I'm living a lie. What you don't know won't hurt you, and what goes on the road, stays on the road. I hope our band is around long enough to do a "Behind The Music." As for Cribs, that's another great question. When we did the first Cribs at Cyrus and Steve's house, I parked my car down the street because I didn't want it to be on TV. I can't speak for Jordan or Chad, but my house will never be on Cribs. When I am on tour I am Ian from NFG, but when I am at home I am Ian, husband and father of 2 pugs. Since the Cribs was aired Steve and Cyrus have had some creepy things happen and I don't want to be in that situation. I enjoy my privacy. Plus if people see your car on the road its not a good feeling when they follow you. I guess in a way it sounds a bit selfish, but I don't really want starngers hanging out in front of my house. It makes me paranoid.
-
Hey boys! wondering if we can expect an image change in the future. I saw Jordan wearing a blazer in a video. Times are a changing? Steve.
(asked by wiggasaywhat)
JORDAN: No image change. We have no style and anyway blazers are cool....
-
I don't think I've heard your opinion on Carter (Stefanie and Richard's cat). I've listened to some pretty harsh things about him so maybe I can hear your side of the story.
(asked by spankthemonkey101)
IAN: First let me say this. I am an animal lover and I wish animals no harm. Carter is a f--king a--hole and I hate his guts. They always say, "Don't let the cat out at night. Coyotes will eat it." Cyrus was on their driveway one night and saw Carter. He decided to bring him back inside. That night was weird. I saw a strange mark on Carter's nose. I said, "Dude Carter got bit by a coyote and Stefanie is gonna flip." Plus, Carter was being so nice to me, which was not normal. Well, little did we know Carter was asleep upstairs in Stef's room. Cyrus let a stray cat in their house. End of story.
-
Hey Jordan. I have a quick question for you. Is it true that you worked on the Boxcar Racer album at all? Rumor has it that you sing back-up vocals on one of the songs. Just wondering if that is a true statement.
(asked by JonnyJuicebox13)
JORDAN: Yes it's true. Tim Armstrong, from Rancid, and I both did backup vocals on the fifth track on the album, "Cat Like Thief."
-
When you first started touring, did you guys set that up yourselves and if so how did you do it so the dates all came right after one another, like so your next show is the next day somewhere else?
(asked by Ralleydrvr)
IAN: Yes, we did set up our own tours when we started, and they were never one show to the next. We drove all over. We would play Orlando, Florida one day and New Jersey the next, then Kentucky. We would go anywhere we had too. We knew that without touring non-stop our dreams would never come true. To go a little further into the question, (I don't know if these sites are even up and running anymore) we would go to www.revhq.com and www.floridacore.com and we would see what shows were happening. Then we would email bands and beg to get on shows. Some days we played for free and some days we got gas money, but at least we were on tour.
-
Hey Steve, Chad, or Ian where can we buy the New Found Glory picks. I've been looking for them everywhere.
(asked by operez)
STEVE: Join the fan club, catch them at a show or Ebay (kidding).
-
Hey this 1 is for Jordan. I was just wondering how old were you when you got your first tattoo and which one is your favorite?
(asked by nothing_goldcan_stay69)
JORDAN: I was 17 when I got my first tattoo. It was at the end of our first tour and we all got the same tattoo of a star with Japanese letters in it that says friendship. The tattoo sucks, but there is meaning behind it. My favorie is my transformers tat on my leg that will never get finished.
-
This question is for Steve, Chad and Ian. In the future will you guys consider having your own signature series guitar out in the stores?
(Asked by gosensgo66)
IAN: That is something that is 100% up to Fender (me and Steve) and Gibson (Chad). I think it would be amazing, but I don't know if it will ever happen? If you get a lot of people to contact the companies and ask, and maybe we will.
-
Hi my name is Casey. I don’t know much about NFG. I heard from a friend that the guy that is your lead singer now isn’t the first singer for the band. Is that true? I think they said the original singers name was Dan. Anyhow, if that is true someone also told me that even though this Dan guy wrote some of the songs used on your first album you didn’t give him any credit. I was just wondering if all that was true or not.
(Asked by kayce20)
JORDAN: No I've been the original singer since we started in 1997 in Ian's garage. Prior to that, I was in a band with Ian in 1996 called Flip 60. I sang and played guitar. I even played bass on a few songs. I have a brother named Dan though.
-
I love your music alot and I'm still crazy over it till this day. By the way I got a question for all you guys. Have you played in other bands before NFG?
(Asked by N1ki_Punk)
JORDAN: I was in Fallview with Steve and Inner City Kids and Flip 60 with Ian.
STEVE: I was in Fallview with Jordan.
CHAD: I was in Backscatter and Shai Hulud.
IAN: I was in Psychedelic Smoke, Phart, Hope 4 Dope, A.O.R., Below Average Intelligents, Cluster Fuck and too many others to name. I was also in Inner City Kids and Flip 60 with Jordan.
CYRUS: I was in two different groups before NFG. I played in a group called Splurge for a few years in high school. The other group was more of a side band/jam thing. It was called HOMOMOFO. We covered Red Hot Chili Peppers songs.
-
When you guys started off local, in your first year or so, were you guys a scene favorite or did it happen over periods of time of just touring no matter what and playing as many shows as you ould and etc.? (Asked by pqxmdh)
CYRUS: When we first started, we were looking to play anywhere and everywhere we could. We played a lot of shows at one particular club/bar, called Club Q. It was a pool hall/bar, and they hosted local/semi-national shows there, but it could only hold like 300-400 people. We would play there like every other weekend, either on our own, or opening up for friends' bands. Sometimes a larger band would come there from out of town, and we luckily landed a few opening spots on those shows. Some of those bands included Saves the Day, The Get Up Kids, and Cooter (now known as Autopilot Off). But it took a long time before we were able to finally play larger shows at the larger venues in town. I guess persistence and hard work pays off!
-
Hey Jordan, why do you yell Cyrus before the guitar solo in the song "Heaven"? - (Asked by fool0117)
JORDAN: I yell Cyrus in the cover song "Heaven" because on the recording he played that big guitar solo right after I say his name.
-
Hey guys when you first started out did you just make up songs or did you start out by playing covers. If so do you remember any of the songs you used to play? (Asked by fresh cream)
IAN: We started with originals. I am pretty sure the first NFG song was Scraped Knees.
-
Hey Steve & Jordan. I've noticed that both of you often wear the same chain necklace with the lightning bolt and anchor. Does it have any special meaning? It looks pretty cool. Where did you guys get it? (Asked by angelrokstar)
STEVE: Well, it doesnt really have any meaning. We just usually like some of the same things. What's cool is that Rusty, the guitar player from H2O, makes them custom. That's where we got them from.

Hi, this one is for Jordan. I recently saw a band called The Big Screen and the lead singer said he was your bro. Is he really? (Asked by glueieat)
My brother does sing for The Big Screen. They are just starting out. That's cool that you went and saw them!

Hey NFG I think you rock. I was wondering when are you coming to "latino america". You have to come here cuz you are the best group ever. Your number 1 fan in latino america.
(Asked by Melkor_281)
IAN: To be honest, I don't even know where that is on a map. I have been out of school for a long time. I know on this cd we plan on going to a lot of new places we have never been to, so hopefully latino america is one of them. Cross your fingers. You never know. "If you build it, they will come."

Cyrus, was it a hard choice for you to not go to college? If you had went, what college would you have attended?
(Asked by Insombnj)
CYRUS: Yes and no. I attended college for one year. I was a business administration major at the University of Miami. I was also awarded a 3/4 tuition scholarship based on academics. So, when I left school, I was leaving some great things that I probably wouldn't be able to receive again. But I knew that music was something I had to pursue, and the opportunity at the time (a record contract with Drive-Thru, a van to tour in, and a few tours lined up) was too good to let pass by me. I also knew that if I had to go back to school, I could. Keep in mind, I'm not saying that everyone should drop out of school today. I had an amazing opportunity. I had very supportive parents and most importantly, I got lucky. In the future I would actually consider enrolling in college again to get a degree in music engineering (recording). Unfortunately, I don't have the time right now.

Hey Jordan, I'm a huge fan of The Smiths. I was just wondering what is your favorite Smiths album/song? Also do you have the rareities and b-side cd that has the never aired BBC interview? If you don't, let me know, I have an extra copy.
(Asked by XXNFG05XX)
JORDAN: My favorite Smiths album is "The Queen Is Dead." My favorite song off that album is "The Boy With The Thorn In His Side." I have the original pressings of most of their albums on vinyl.

To all you guys. In "The Story So Far" DVD you said that you called up clubs and asked to play like 5 min at the start. Were they cool with that because I'm in a band and wanna start playing shows. Any tips on starting bands?
(Asked by dammit_uk)
IAN: I'm not sure if your question is how to start a band or how to book shows? Start by calling the smaller clubs and find out if you can give them a demo. Tell them the kind of music you play and what bands that are playing at that venue would be a good for you to open for. Some clubs will say no, some will say maybe, and you never know, some might say yes. Also use the internet. Talk to bands that live in or near your area. Then call the club and say you have a few bands that want to play their venue. Ask them if they have any open dates. You can also find some bands you like and beg to get on the shows. There are many ways of doing it. You just have to brainstorm and use your noodle. As for starting a band, if you have trouble finding people in your area, go to a music store and post a message on the cork board. Does that make any sense? Was that even the question?

At the end of DVD, "The Story So Far" there is a part where Cyrus is playing drums and then he runs jumps into a pool. I was wondering what that was from. Like a music video or something. Thanx!
(Asked by selfmade5)
CYRUS: What a funny show that was. That show actually took place on our first tour ever, in the summer of 1998 at a House Party in Red Banks, NJ. The tour was with The Vacant Andys (Chris from Dashboard sang with them). We were playing the song "Standstill", off of our EP, "It's All About the Girls." In the middle of the song, there is a breakdown with just guitar. I had kind of made a bet that I could jump in the pool during that part, and then run back and finish the song. I actually didn't make it back right away. Luckily Steve repeated that little guitar part again for me. Whatever, I think there were like 20 people there anyways.

This one is for Jordan. Do you use any filters or effects on your singing when you guys record? If so, what do the effects do? Like, do they smooth out your voice, make it sound better??
(Asked by FullMPNFG)
JORDAN: We use a very little amount. Sometimes we use distortion on my voice on parts that are a little heavier. On one song I sang through a hand held megaphone. We do however use different mics for different songs while recording and the smoothness comes from me layering my own voice.

Ok in the video for "All Downhill From Here," Jordan is wearing a chicken costume at one point. I figure the rest of you guys are in the other costumes, but who is who in the other costume?
(Asked by storysofar17)
IAN: I am the raisin, Chad is the alien, Cyrus is the lobster and Steve is the bunny.

I have a simple question! How do you guys feel about kazaa and other filesharing programs? I think it is a great way to discover new artists. That is how I first heard of New Found Glory. Back in the days of napster I was searching for punk bands and I found you. I have been a big fan since. I have your cds and saw you live a couple of times. I am in a band and I would be stoked if people were at least downloading my music. So how do you feel about it?
(Asked by jgangl)
CYRUS: We each have different opinions, but I believe that these programs are both good and bad. You're right that these programs can turn on people to new artists. A lot of people heard of our first few recordings through these programs. It's a great thing when people can "tryout" a record before they buy it. However, the problem is with those who only download CD's, and don't buy them. I'm also against those who get albums early, and kind of ruin the wait for others. There's always a lot of anticipation for new CD's. I remember counting down the days until a record came out and then rushing out to the store on that Tuesday to buy a band's new CD.

Hey, Ian, I was wondering, if you could say one thing about west virginia, what would it be?
(Asked by blinkwvu)
IAN: I would say, "West Virginia, mountain momma, take me home, country road."

Hey Cyrus!!! I just wanted to know, how tall are you? I can see in the pictures that you are kinda tall, so I was wondering how much! (Asked by flaquita39)
CYRUS: On my driver's license, it says 6'3", but I don't think I quite made it to that height. I'm around 6'2". Jordan and Chad are just about the same height as me. You are right, we are kinda tall!

I've only been to a concert once and I was wondering how people get backstage passes? I'm so into music and so are my friends, but I've wanted to meet bands and talk to them. (Asked by dantanan)
IAN: Backstage is boring. It's not like it was when Def Leppard was touring arenas. No girls, no drugs. Just some treats to nosh on. To get passes, you either need to be friends with the band, know the promoter of the show or win them in a contest. Too many people ask me for passes, so I always say no. Plus when I do get someone backstage that hasn't been there before and doesn't know who to act, I have to babysit them and make sure they stay out of trouble and its kinda annoying.
